New Delhi, June 03 2013: Acting on the direction to take over and investigate the case of (L) Reingamphy Awungshi who died under mysterious circumstances on May 29 inside her rented room in South Delhi, the Police Crime Branch has filed an FIR under Section 302 of IPC (for murder) late Saturday night.
An additional section added to the existing Section 306, which was registered immediately.
“Section 306 (abetment to suicide) is a judicial document, the police has no power to withdraw or cancel,” said ACP Crime Branch SS Gill while speaking to .
It may be noted that while relatives and friends of the deceased had alleged murder and sexual assault, the police had suspected prima facie a case of suicide and drug abuse.
A copy of the FIR was received by the relatives of the deceased today morning.

“We will see how it moves forward, and if required other sections of the IPC will eventually be added,” said the ACP, who is designated to head the investigation while adding, “After the second post mortem, we will know how to proceed” .
The house owner where the deceased had rented a room has also been summoned by the Police Crime Branch.
“We have interrogated the landlord and one of his relatives on Sunday.
The interrogation will continue,” the ACP said.
Meanwhile, a second post mortem is being conducted on the body.
Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (Tangkhul Students’ Union, Delhi) President Athot Shinglai said, “We are preparing queries/ questionnaires to be responded by medical team” .
Stating that the relatives and friends can list out demand for medical examination on the body, the ACP said that his office had asked the Delhi Government to speed up the process and that help and cooperation from the relatives and Northeast people is crucial.
