The legendary Indian lyricist, musician, singer, poet and film-maker Dr. Bhupen Hazarika who weaved magic out of traditional Assamese music is missed by all. In remembrance of the legend on his 86th birth anniversary, the country today celebrated Bhupendra diwas for the first time.

The world pays homage to the great cultural icon who brought worldwide recognition to assamese music and swayed millions with the power of his voice.

Country's longest rail-cum-road bridge in Northeast nearing completion

A decade after commencement of construction work of India's longest rail-cum-road bridge over the Brahmaputra river in Assam, considered crucial for the defence requirement of the region, the mega project nears completion.
Work on the 4.940-km long Bogibeel rail-cum road bridge connecting Assam with Arunachal Pradesh, was sanctioned in 1997-98 and the foundation stone of the multi-crore project was laid by former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee on April 21, 2002.

This project was declared a national project only in 2007 after which the pace of the work gained momentum. The project is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2015.
