KILLER SPIDERS CREATE TERROR IN ASSAM

Swarms of poisonous nocturnal spiders have cast a web of terror in the northeastern state- Assam’s Sadiya area bordering Arunachal Pradesh. The spiders have strong neurotoxic venom known to be fatal.

The first of the spider attacks on May 8, in Chaulkhowa Na-Gaon village, left a middle-aged man dead due to spider bite. Barbora, Jiyagaon, Dikrong and a few other villages in the area reported spider attacks in the next few days. At least 20 people have subsequently undergone treatment for swelling and pain at Sadiya Civil Hospital. This spider species has reportedly found its way to Guwahati as well.

People fear more attacks by the ‘alien’ arachnids. Zoologists said the description of the spiders fit the venomous black or brown widow species belonging to the Latrodectus genus found in contiguous areas of Myanmar, China and Thailand.

THE INNOCENT DESERVE JUSTICE

Today, India Gate witnessed hundreds of Northeast Indians demanding justice for innocent Dana Sangma, a student of Amity University, who had to pay her life because of the cruel authorities of her institution at such an early age.

We, the Northeast Indians, stand to fight for her until she is rendered the justice she deserves. ‘Cause this is discrimination and we don’t deserve it.

BIG NEWS : ASSAM'S GUINNESS BID

In a bid to enter the Guinness World Records, 100 people on Sunday, 29th April, planted 40,885 saplings within an hour near the Chirang Reserve Forest in lower Assam.

They wanted to break the record of 26,422 saplings planted in an hour in a Northern Ireland park two years ago.
The event was video-graphed in the presence of three independent observers and the footage would now be sent to Guinness World Records. "Our objective is not just to establish a record. Our motto is 'plant a tree, save a life'. We want to highlight the loss of trees in our area and impress upon the civil society to do its duty to save the forests," said C. Ramesh Kumar, divisional forest officer of Haltugaon Forest Division under the Chirang Reserve Forest.

The Assamese team is hopeful of breaking Northern Ireland’s record. Cheers!
