Thoubal, February 28 2014 : Normal life was affected in Chandel district on the first day of the 48 hrs total bandh spon-sored by the Chandel District Naga Kuki Joint Committee (CDNKJC) .
The bandh is being imposed to protest the proposed acquisition of 600 acres of land near Pallel, non-fulfilling of the demand for shifting camps of surrendered UGs from the district and non-transfer of revenue land re- cords from Thoubal district by the State Government.
Large number of bandh supporters including women came out and enforced roadblock at the road leading to Chandel district headquarters near St Paul’s School, Liwa-changning and Imphal-Moreh section of NH-2 at Pallel, H Kotlenphai, Thamlapokpi and at Saivom villages.

Effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi, Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Kakching MLA Y Surchandra Singh, Teng-noupal MLA D Korungthang and Chandel MLA St Nung-hlung Victor were also burnt by the bandh supporters.
Passengers and private ve-hicles including motorcycles stayed off the roads, Government offices recorded low at- tendance in the district headquarters and commercial esta- blishments in and around Pallel were also shut down.
However, emergency services were exempted from the purview of the bandh.
There has been no report of violent incident till the time of filing this report.
Speaking to media persons, Sng Lumdil Anal, Con- venor of the 48 hrs Chandel District total bandh, said that the Bandh was enforced from midnight of Feb 27 as the State Government failed to response positively to the de-mands of the people.
He also announced that the people of Chandel district will boycott the local MLAs, if they fail to take initiative towards the fulfilment of the people’s demands.
