Cobra, slow loris rescued

Imphal, August 30 2013 : On being informed by one Ningthoujam Deben of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai at about 5 pm yesterday that a big snake was found entrapped in a fishing net set at his pond, People For Animal (PFA) Thoubal rushed there and found a 5 ft long cobra being ensnared.


According to a press release of PFA Thoubal, the snake was pulled out from the water along with the net.


The snake was then released at the bank of a river.


It slithered along the grass and crawled away in the river.


Meanwhile, a female slow loris was handed over to PFA by one Thangjam Banan of Ukhongsang Mamang Leikai today.


The loris was surprisingly found among the timbers brought inside a truck all the way from Kasom Khullen of Ukhrul dist, the release stated.


It added, Banan found the loris while unloading the timbers at a saw mill at Ukhongsang.


He brought the animal to his house and informed PFA.


It will be released at a suitable site with the advice of CWW, Manipur.
