Thoubal, March 31 2015 : Protesting the transfer of the Headmaster of Eureka High School, Khongjom Sapam, the students today blocked National Highway 102 along Khongjom Bazar and has called a 24 hour general strike with effect from midnight today.


Students of Eureka High School have been boycotting classes from March 13 demanding the cancellation of the transfer order of the school headmaster.


Continuing the protest, the students along with locals of Khongjom area today marched towards Khongjom Bazar and disrupted normal vehicular movement along National Highway 102 .

Thoubal police team clashed with the infuriated mob and several rounds of tear gas shells, blank gunshots were fired by the police team.


Protesters retaliated by pelting stones on the police team.


Four students sustained injury during the clash and were treated in Khongjom Community Health Centre.


The situation was brought under control after Thoubal police SDPO Shankardev and Yairipok SDPO Hemanta intervened and interacted with the protesters.


Eureka High School Union general secretary said that several appeals were put forward to the Education Minister regarding the matter and authority concerned.


However, it failed to yield positive results.


Condemning the negligence of the Education Minister and other authorities concerned, the general secretary decided to impose a 24 hour bandh along the NH-102 .
