Peace festival



Kohima, Feb. 21 : A daylong Assam-Nagaland Festival was held today at Amguri tea garden field in Sivasagar district with the aim of fostering good relations between the people of Assam and residents of bordering Mokokchung district in Nagaland.


The event was jointly inaugurated by the Sivasagar district commissioner Virendra Mittal and his Mokokchung counterpart Kumar Patel.


Organised by the Sivasagar district administration, the festival saw men and women’s volleyball teams, cultural troupes and self-help groups of both states take part in various events.


In men’s volleyball, Assam defeated Nagaland while the Nagaland women’s team defeated their Assam counterparts. Cultural groups from Tuli area in Nagaland displayed Naga bamboo-cutting, stick-walking and go-karting, among others, while those from Assam performed Bihu, Jhumur and the Gumrag dance of the Mising community.


Another programme will be held on February 25 at Aathkhel Bazar playground at Geleky in Sivasagar.
