Around 70 Percent Voting In 1st Phase Of Assam Panchayat Poll



Around 65 to 70 percent voters exercised their franchise in the first phase of panchayat poll in eight districts as per initial reports. It is reported that voting was conducted in peaceful manner barring two minor incidents at Nagaon and Majuli. Re-polling may be held at four polling stations due to problem occurred in ballot papers.


A total of 27 thousand eight hundred 74 candidates are in fray in this phase. Voting was held for 164 Zilla Parishad, 861 Anchalik Parishad and Gaon Panchayat President and eight thousand 610 panchayat members seat. 50 percent of the total seats have been reserved for women. The second and third phase of poll will be held on 6th and 12th February while counting for all the three phases will be held on 14th and 15th next month.
