Separate investment policy for NE mooted

Imphal, December 30 2013: Commerce and Industry Minister Govindas Konthoujam today released the recommendations of the industrial development dialogue on ‘Industrial potential in Manipur and Look East Policy of India’, held at Classic Hotel on June 10 last.


Eminent economist and All Manipur Entrepreneurs Association (AMEA) advisor Prof N Mohendra also attended the function organised by AMEA at Secretariat Ministerial Block.


Speaking at the occasion, Govindas Konthoujam said that the State Government has requested the Centre to work out a separate investment policy for North East States.


Informing that there are many trade components in the State Commerce and Industry Department, the Minister said that these trades however need support from Finance and Power Departments.

The Minister also stressed on the need to set up separate Directorates for all these trades.


While speaking on the need for setting up industrial units in hill districts, Govindas Konthoujam pointed out law and order problem as the main hindrance to Government’s development plans and projects.


Govindas also called on the people of the State to get ready for the arrival of train service in 2016 or 2017 .


Saying that skill development training must be given to the unemployed youth in order to make them self employed, Govindas announced Government’s plan for setting up an industrial education institute at Porompat in Imphal East district.


In his speech, the Minister also spoke on the issues like working hand in hand between entrepreneurs and the Government in hill districts, setting up of an Industrial Advisory Board, need for repayment of loans and impact of bandhs and blockades on industrial growth.


Prof N Mohendra while speaking at the function said that Manipur Government must formulate a concrete plan to give skill development education to youth like in China.
