The long buried Jan Lokpal bill might witness a resurgence as the Delhi government is speculating to table the bill during the summer session of the state assembly. The Jan Lokpal bill which became the flash point and eventually the cause for AAP quitting the coalition government on the 49th day of its formation, had failed to find a space in the emerging discourses of the current government.
Sources within the party said that the party is contemplating to table the bill as both, Lokpal and Swaraj, bill top the list of 70-point action plan of the AAP government.
A senior party official confirmed that the bill in all likelihood ‘will be introduced in the next Delhi assembly session’. “The Swaraj bill might take a little more time but the Lokpal bill will be introduced in all its likelihood in the next budget session,” the official said.
The disclosure was made to dna a day before the AAP government completes its 49 days, a number intertwined with the party’s history. Last year the previous AAP led government quit the coalition on the 49th day of its formation after the same bill was not accepted in the state assembly.
While campaigning for the recent assembly, which AAP won with an overwhelming majority, the Lokpal bill was put on a back burner.
However this might change soon.
