Ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s return, Digvijaya Singh says timing of his long leave was wrong
New Delhi: Ahead of Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s return next week, his mentor and party’s General Secretary Digvijaya Singh said the timing of Rahul’s long leave was wrong. He also said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi should continue to be in active politics even after Rahul replaces her from the post.
Here is an excerpt from the interview:
CNN-IBN:On March 20, there was a press release, and that was from Amarinder Singh. And he seemed to be saying something which many in the Congress party seem to be saying. That there seems to be an enthusiasm in the Congress party as she is back.
Digvijaya Singh added that Congress President Sonia Gandhi should continue to be in active politics even after Rahul replaces her from the post.
Digvijaya Singh: She has always been there. She is informed always. She is in the saddle. And therefore, I think, why people are looking at it otherwise.
CNN-IBN:You think it was a wrong time for the Rahul to go on leave?
Digvijaya Singh: Well, as I said, timing could have been better.
CNN-IBN:Well, you know the point is that his politics has largely been about land. And and at that time he was absent. Whether it was the Communal Violence Bill, where he went to the well of the House but was absent during the debate.
