Broadcast Editors’ Association slams Gen VK Singh for his ‘presstitutes’ remark



New Delhi: The Union Minister of States for External Affairs Gen VK Singh on Wednesday sparked another controversy. The minister tweeted referring to the media as ‘presstitutes’ on the micro-blogging site.


The comment has drawn flak from the Broadcast Editors’ Association who have condemned the minister for making the statement. The BEA have has said that such a comment by a minister of the Union Cabinet only deteriorates the image of the government. “We condemn it, I am surprised that a member of union council could comment like this. BEA severally criticise this. This type of tweets deteriorate the image of government,” said BEA’s general secretary NK Singh.


Former I&B minister and Congress leader Manish Tewari slammed the Modi-government and said, “What the minister has said is reprehensible and needs to be condemned in strongest terms.”

Another Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad targeted PM Modi. “If there would have been a sensitive Prime Minister, he would have dismissed the minister. The PM also has the same mindset,” said Ahmad.


NCP leader Tariq Anwar also slammed Singh. “No it is very unfortunate that a minister is using abusive lang media . Modi should take a call.
