Major fire at Ballari thermal station in Karnataka

Power generation at the 500 MW unit of the Ballari Thermal Power Station in Karnataka has come to a grinding halt following a major fire, a BTPS official said on Tuesday.
The fire accident last night destroyed the transformer in the first unit of the power station affecting power generation, the official said. He said it may need at least 10 days to repair the unit completely and added the extent of damage is yet to be ascertained.
