Panama security officials try to bar media from Obama meeting

Panamanian security officials tried to bar some U.S. journalists from a meeting between President Obama and the president of Panama on Friday.

A pool reporter traveling with Mr. Obama said local security officials “attempted to cut off access” to the conference room where Mr. Obama was meeting with Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela. The two leaders were making short statements to the media at the conclusion of their meeting in Panama City.

One U.S. reporter said he “had to try and force my way in along with other” journalists, and he gained admittance to the room only when a White House aide pulled him into the room.

Mr. Obama is visiting Panama for the Summit of the Americas, which takes place Friday and Saturday.
