UPA’s response to Pakistan aggression was ‘height of humility': Rajnath Singh

Lucknow: Terming the response of previous UPA regime to Pakistan’s aggression as “height of humility”, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said the way NDA government dealt with the cross border firing and infiltration has forced the neighbouring country to “shout for” UN intervention.

“We want good ties with our neighbours and the then Vajpayee government as well as the previous UPA government had also made efforts on their part but the latter’s attitude was very ineffective or was height of humility even in the face of killing of our innocent people,” he said.

Singh was speaking at a function organised by the Oudh Bar Association, where in Lucknow was felicitated.

Recalling the incident of killing of five innocent persons, including women and children, by Pakistan troops soon after the NDA government came to power, Singh said when he inquired about what BSF did in return, he was told that they had shown 16 white flags to Pakistan in the past.

“The security of the country is our responsibility and also our ‘dharma’. I told the DG BSF not to initiate firing but if the other side indulges in it, they should give a befitting reply,” he said.

“You can see, ever since circumstances have been created that Pakistan has been shouting for intervention of the United Nations.
