Imphal, April 01 2015 : Although people of the State are literally left high and dry due to water scarcity problem, officials concerned have sat on it.

Attempt to contact officials of Public Health Engineering Dept regarding distribution of water proved futile as officials concerned refused any appointment on the alleged ground that they are preoccupied with official works.

Significantly, the PHED has been distributing water to few localities in Imphal in meagre amount.

There is no concrete information or policy about water distribution as of now although few localities get scrimpy amount of water through PHE Dept.

Many residents blamed the lack of any policy of the Govt for the water crisis besetting the State.

Many locals feel that water scarcity problem could be avoided if rain water is tapped in a proper manner.

The need to spread awareness about preservation of forests in catchment areas is also strongly felt by Imphal residents in order to avoid water crisis in the State.

No step has been initiated by the Govt to tap or harvest rain water.

The dry spell has also hit hard private water tankers which otherwise did brisk business, as there is no water source where they could get water readily.

Taorem Shanti, a resident of Soibam Leikai said water use for daily chores has been cut to its minimum level due to water scarcity.

She felt that the Govt should construct public ponds instead of constructing community halls.
