10 political parties back Dr Nara for LS poll

Imphal, January 21 2014 : CPI leader Dr Moirangthem Nara has been chosen as the common candidate of 10 political organisations to contest in the Inner Manipur parliamentary Constituency seat in the 16th Lok Sabha election.


The political parties comprising of All India Forward Bloc, Bahujan Samaj Party, Communist Party of India, CPI (Marxist), Janata Dal (United), Janata Dal (Secular), Nationalist Congress Party, Revolutionary Socialist Party, Shiv Sena and Peoples’ Democratic Alliance formally declared nomination of Dr Nara as the common candidate for the upcoming Parliamentary election.


Speaking to media persons today at Irawat Bhavan, BT Road, CPI (M) secretary Sarat Salam said these political parties would also announce a common candidate for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency at the earliest.

Stating that decision to nominate Dr Nara as the common candidate was finally taken at a joint meeting held on january 19 at Singjamei Thokchom Leikai and officially announced today with the approval of Central leaders of the partner national political organisations, he also reiterated that the Central leaders have been conveyed about the parties’ proposal for a common candidate to contest in the outer seat.


Expressing gratitude to the political organisations, whose representatives were also present at the media briefing, for putting faith upon him, Dr Nara confiding that some other non-Congress or non-BJP political parties have also been intimated to back the common choice exuded confidence of support and goodwill from the other parties.


Asserting that decision to field a common candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha election is based on the principle of jointly tackling various socio-economic and political problems besieging Manipur, he declared that contesting the Lok Sabha election is not the sole agenda for these political organisations but to sustain campaigns for ensuring regular supply of power and potable water and fight crime and violence against women and children.


JD-U Manipur president M Tombi joining the media briefing informed that consequent to a number of joint meetings as well as deliberations by the partner political parties decision was arrived at nominating Dr Nara as the common choice.


He also urged the people of Manipur to provide an opportunity for Dr Nara to represent the common people in the Parliament.
