Imphal, September 19 2013: Keen on bringing a complete overhaul in the functioning of the Police Department, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has sought opinions of all police officers starting from those working in the fields up to the DGP.
Meanwhile, it is reported that certain clues have been found regarding the perpetrators of the Nagamapal blast which claimed the lives of nine migrant workers.
According to a senior police officer, Gaikhangam presided an official meeting complete with lunch at 1st MR banquet hall this morning.
Among others, Principal Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu, DGP MK Das, ADGPs, IGPs, DIGs, SPs and COs attended the meeting.
The conference not only deliberated on the internal structures and functions of police but also reviewed the investigation progress of the Nagamapal bomb blast.
Certain clues regarding the perpetrators of the bomb attack have been emerged but it would be premature to disclose the findings, said the police officer.

On his part, the Deputy Chief Minister dwelt on police-public relationship and called upon all the senior police officers to transform the image of the police.
Gaikhangam also sought opinions of police officers working in the field regarding their inconveniences and the areas where they would like to bring changes.
One lady Traffic Police asked how she would relieve herself when she feels the urge during duty hours and that too during rush hours.
The conference also discussed about enacting a new and separate Act for Manipur Police in place of the Assam Police Act which is being followed by Manipur Police Department.
Housing for police personnel, police modernisation, communication, vehicles and hospitals were some other agenda of the conference.
The Deputy Chief Minister also acknowledged the service of police personnel who have been discharging their duties under adverse or difficult conditions.
To open a separate unit for Traffic Police and keep it under a Superintendent of Police was another agenda of the conference.
The conference further studied the possibility of separating law and order maintenance apart from investigation part so that police can give due emphasis on investigation.
Taking serious note of the heightened UG activities, the meeting discussed about launching a ‘clean’ CI Ops.
To intensify activities of police commandos by providing them more modern vehicles, weapons and equipment was another agenda which figured prominently during the meeting.
It is reported that the Government of India has agreed to provide Manipur police commandos with more sophisticated communication equipment.
