Imphal, August 31 2013 : Even as a CRPF personnel and a mother-son duo escaped unscathed by a whisker when an bomb exploded near Raj Bhavan Gate II on the side of Governor road at around 4.50 this afternoon, one woman sustained minor injuries.
The bomb which police later said was an IED exploded just 9 feet away from the compound wall of the Raj Bhavan and 27 feet away from the gate of Governor’s staff quarters.
The explosion left a crater two feet deep and three feet wide in diameter.
Incidentally, the surrounding areas of Raj Bhavan including Governor Road are being guarded round the clock by CRPF.
In addition, police commandos have been keeping a close watch in the area.
Just 300 metres away from the blast site, a CCTV camera is installed near Indra Colour photo studio and another CCTV camera installed at the nearby CRPF sentry post.
Usually, Governor Road is patrolled by CRPF personnel quite intensively every day.
Today too, a team of four CRPF personnel led by Head Constable Joy Singh were patrolling the road.

The personnel going in the rear had just gone past the blast site by three/four steps when the IED exploded.
One Oinam Saya (57) w/o Ranjit of Elangbam Leikai who works in State Archives was hit by shrapnel as she was travelling in a car which left her with some minor injuries.
She was rushed to RIMS.
The impact of the blast left the CRPF personnel dusted and shabby.
Dust and earth thrown up by the impact of the blast also hit a woman and her 13 year old son who were awaiting passenger auto-rickshaw at the Governor’s staff quarter gate.
On hearing about the bomb blast, DIG (L/O-I) L Kailun, DIG (Range-I) Clay Khongsai, Imphal West SP K Jayenta and other high ranking police officers rushed to the blast site.
Additional DGP PM Gaud too arrived at the scene not long after.
Soon, a team of explosive experts arrived at the scene and scanned the area.
After closing the road for sometime, police called out all the people who were present along Governor Road and verified their identities.
