MU leaves students in dire straits

Source:

Imphal, October 07 2013 : Two students of DM College of Arts are reportedly staring at the possible loss of one academic year because of alleged negligence on the part of Manipur University staff/employees.

Speaking to media persons at the office of DESAM at Keishampat this afternoon, Salam Amarjit and Sagolsem Hemajit said that they gave their BA 6th semester examination this mid-year.

Whereas Amarjit is studying Geography, Hemajit is an English student.

Results of the semester exam were declared on July 19 and both of them were given the same remark ‘yet to pass’ .

On being enquired with the college authority, they were told that they were given the particular remark because they were yet to clear Sociology exam of 4th semester.

Results of the 4th semester exam were declared on July 25 but their results were kept ‘with held’ .

On enquiry, the MU Controller of Examinations said that Sociology paper was yet to be evaluated.

On July 29, results of the candidates who were given the remark ‘yet to pass’ were declared but roll numbers of Amarjit and Hemajit were missing in the result sheet.

Even as marksheets of other candidates were sent to colleges, their marksheets were held back.

At the suggestion of college staff, the two students went to the Assistant Controller of Examinations, MU on August 20.There they learnt that they had cleared the semester exam and their marksheets have been already dispatched to their college.

In the meantime, entrance test for Master Degree course in MU was held on August 20.But they could not appear the entrance test because they received the marksheets of their semester exam only the next day.

With the Controller of Examinations declining their request to make a special arrangement for a second entrance test, the two students are likely to lose one year as far as their academic career is concerned.

The two students landed in such woeful situation because of follies committed by staff of MU Exam Section, asserted DESAM general secretary Arambam Thoithoi.

MU exam authority need to fix responsibility and take up necessary action against the erring staff, he demanded.
