Dimapur, February 22 2013: Two lives have been claimed and scores injured in poll related violence in two separate places in Nagaland today.
Sources said clashes between supporters of Naga People’s Front (NPF) and the Congress party have resulted in the death of a person in Wokha district this morning.
Reports said kidnappings and arson preceded the clashes which have been going on in the last two days.
Sources added that at a village called Pokhidong, suporters of the NPF and the Congress clashed early this morning resulting in the death of a person.
It is still yet to be confirmed from the police to which party the deceased belonged to.
The police are tight lipped knowing probably the outcome once they pronounce the identity of the person or to which party he belonged.
Scores of abduction cases have also been reported in the district.
In yet another case of poll violence, a man was killed when two groups of people clashed in Tuensang district.
However, it is yet to be confirmed.
Unconfirmed reports said violence broke out today between supporters of the NPF and the Congress in which a man was killed.
Meanwhile, reports said tensions have been running high in several places across Nagaland on the eve of the polling day.
At Longsa and Tuli in Mokokchung district, clashes have been occurring in the last two days between the supports of the NPF and the Congress.
There have been volatile situons in Dimapur and its vicinity.
The involvement of certain underground elements in the ensuing Nagaland polls have also been the cause of the volatile situation.
