Police remand for all six accused till Mar 8

Imphal, February 25 2013: The Public Relations Officer of PIB (Defence Wing) and five others who were arrested by Thoubal district police commandos with psy-chotropic drugs worth around Rs 25 crore have been remanded to police custody till March 8 .


Amidst tight security, they were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Thoubal today.


On getting information of their appearance, a large number of people including media persons waited for them at the Court complex from around 11 am.


However, the six arrested persons PIB (DW) PRO Col Ajay Chowdhury, Indigo Airlines Assistant Manager (security) Ngairangbam Brojendro, 165 Infantry Battalion personnel RK Bablu, Haopu Haokip, Minthang Doungel and Minlal Haokip were produced before the Court by a police team led by Kakching Police Station SDPO at around 3.30 pm along with the seized drugs and three vehicles.

Meanwhile, the number plate of the white Tata Safari which was inscribed with the registration number MN02A/0369 has turned out to be fake.


The real number plate of the vehicle bearing registration number MN01X/2277 was found inside the vehicle, police said.


After perusing the cases filed against them, the Court remanded them to police custody till March 8 .


They will appear before an NDPS Special Court the same day.


The six persons have been booked under Section 21/29 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act under three different FIRs at Kakching Police Station.
