Imphal, February 25 2013: Taking serious note of the involvement of army officers and other influential people in smuggling drugs in the State, convenor of the Opposition Parties’ Forum Dr Nara has stated that it is high time to launch a social, democratic revolution.

During a press meet which was attended by representatives of all political parties except Congress, Dr Nara who is also secretary of CPI Manipur State Council observed that Manipur is now facing a grave situation because of the involvement of army officers and many influential individuals in drug cartels.

Questioning what the State Government has been doing when an army officer has been caught red handed carrying illegal drugs, Dr Nara asserted all the drug smugglers, irrespective of their position and rank, should be awarded exemplary punishment.

To root out the menace of smuggling drugs and save the society, the situation demands a social, democratic revolution, he asserted.

Saying that there seems to be neither governance nor law nor any direction in present day Manipur, Dr Nara called upon all the people to wake up and struggle in unison to punish and root out all the anti-social elements.

All central political leaders would be apprised about the seizure of illicit drugs worth Rs 15 crores by commandos from six individuals including a Colonel of the Indian Army so that the issue is deliberated at the Parliament and all those involved in the drug smuggling network are awarded befitting punishment, said Dr Nara.

Urging the Government on behalf of the Opposition Parties’ Forum to give handsome reward to the commando who intercepted and seized the drugs at Pallel yesterday, Dr Nara demanded that the Government should not do anything which may harm the service career of the commando team.
