Imphal, February 27 2013: Former Minister and Congress MLA TN Haokip today assured that he would not stand in the way of any legal proceedings initiated against his son who was arrested along with contraband drugs yesterday and asserted that the law should take its own course.
Addressing a press meet today at his official quarters at Babupara in connection with the seizure of drugs from his son, TN Haokip clarified that he had severed ties with his son, Seikholen Haokip, on family matter since some time back.
Though the MLA refused to totally disown his son, he clarified that he has no connection whatsoever with the seizure of drugs from his son.
He said the house at Deulalane where the seizure was made has been registered in the name of Seikholen and reiterated that he would not resist any legal proceedings initiated against his son.
TN Haokip further said that the police personnel who were involved in the seizure of the drugs deserve due recognition and honour.
At the same time, the MLA also urged for unbiased trial for all those involved in drug smuggling racket.
He said that the identities of the owners of the drugs, the investors and transporters should be established fairly in the interest of fighting against the menace.
It may be mentioned that a team of Thoubal district police commandos seized a huge consignment of contraband drugs worth about Rs 25 crore on Sunday from vehicles that were occupied by six persons including PRO of PIB (DW) Col Ajay Chow-dhry, an airline official Ng Brojen and four others.
Following this, the drugs were seized from the residence of Seikholen Haokip.
Seikholen Haokip who was produced before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate yesterday has been remanded to police custody till March 8 .
