Bomb attack leaves one army man dead

Imphal, February 26 2013: One personnel of 1/11 Gorkha Rifles was killed while three others sustained injuries in a bomb blast triggered by the proscribed RPF at Torbung Bangla in Bishnupur district.


The bomb, attached to a roadside culvert between Waikhurok and Kotlen, went off at about 7 this morning when personnel of 1/11 Gorkha Rifles were patrolling the area on foot.


A sniffer dog of the army was also killed in the blast, sources said.


The deceased personnel has been identified as Lance Naik Nikhil Naik of the 107 Engineering Unit attached to 1/11 GR .


The injured personnel have been identified as Amit Kumar (28) and Lance Naik Sushil Kumar of 165 TA (Assam) attached to 1/11 GR .


While Amit Kumar was injured on the face, Sushil was hurt on the arm.


Both of them have been brought to military hospital of the 57th Mountain Division at Leimakhong.

Conditions of the injured personnel are said to be serious..


Soon after the incident, security personnel cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.


However, there is report of any arrest till the time of filing this report.


Meanwhile, another powerful bomb planted near the headquarters of 25th Bn BRTF at Lamphelpat was recovered at about 6.45 am today.


The bomb was retrieved by a bomb disposal squad of Manipur and later set if off safely at an isolated place.
