Imphal, February 27 2013: Coming down heavily on the State Government with regard to the alleged involvement of Congress MLA TN Haokip’s son in the recent drug haul worth around Rs 25 crore, State BJP President Th Chaoba has said that the issue of drug trafficking in the State will be raised in Parliament and National Council.

The former Union Minister was speaking at a sit-in-protest staged by BJP Mahila Morcha against drug trafficking at the gate of the party office at Nityaipat Chuthek today.

Expressing concern over the involvement of the kins of high profile persons and VVIPS in drug trading, Th Chaoba alleged that the Congressmen might have diverted large chunk of Central Government fund in drug bussiness during the past 10 years of its rule in the State.

He also observed that the next State Assemby session must be boycotted if the issue is not discussed during the session.

Th Chaoba said that BJP would however raise the issue of drug trafficking in Manipur in Parliament and at the National Council.

Mentioning the evil effects of drug abuse and trafficking, Th Chaoba expressed worry about the fate of common people if politicians win election with the money earned from drug trafficking.

Urging the general public to remain alert to the misdeeds of so-called public leaders, Th Choaba opined that the whole issue of drug trade in the State must be handed over to CBI for investigation.

Although, Manipur has the reputation of producing good sports persons in the country, the rise of drug trafficking would hamper the development of sports in the State, he opined.

Saying that it is a known fact that drug kills more people than the guns do, Th Chaoba also appealed the people of Manipur to take a serious stand against drug mafias.

Meanwhile, BJP Mahila Morcha today submitted a memorandum to Governor Gurbachan Jagat demanding that recent cases of drug hauls be handed over to the Narcotics Bureau, Government of India.

The Mahila Morcha also demanded the institution of an indpendent body to investigate the recent drug haul at Pallel.

The memorandum also included demands like setting up of SIU or an investigating unit above NAB, proper checking at Tulihal airport and awarding befitting punishment to all the arrested drug traffickers.
