Drugs seized from airport, again

Imphal, February 25 2013: Close on the heels of an Army Colonel, an Airline official and four others being apprehended while travelling in drug laden vehicles at Pallel yesterday, personnel of the State Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) have seized drugs consignments worth Rs 8 lakh from a person at Tulihal Airport yesterday around 3.35pm.A man identified as Rajkumar Rai (32) s/o Ramananda Rai of Thangal Bazar near Anand Continental Hotel was also detained in connection with the seizure.


Rajkumar Rai is a permanent resident of Tulsipur in Bihar.


Producing the seized drugs and the arrested man before media persons today at NAB office, OC of NAB, Inspector RK Bikramjit Singh said that following a specific input, a team of NAB personnel led by the OC, under the supervision of SP (NAB), Md Ishak Shah, rushed to Tulihal Airport yesterday around 3.35 pm.


The NAB team found a non-local youth, who later identified himself as Rajkumar Rai, standing near the public parking lot along with suspected consignments (Consignment No 3136436) .


When the police team checked the cartons that were covered with plastic gunny bag, as many as 1,03,500 tablets of PETAS-TR, said to have high contents of Pseudoephedrine, were found in three boxes of different sizes, the OC said.


‘Mr R Kumar, Thangal Bazar, Imphal, Manipur (M) 9863224566′ were written on all of the three boxes, the Inspector said adding no sender name was written on it.


He further added that the drugs were sent through a courier service, namely SKYLARK Express, Thangal Bazar.


A regular FIR case has been registered against the arrested person for further investigation.


The seized drugs were valued at around Rs 8 lakh in the grey market, according to Inspector Bikramjit.
