Drug Smuggling Via Air Womenfolk take protest to airport

Imphal, February 27 2013: Deman-ding immediate punitive action against officials of Airport Authority of India involved in smuggling of drugs, a large number of Meira Paibis stormed Tulihal Airport this evening.


Leaders and members of 14 different women’s organisations stormed the Airport Complex and raised slogans demanding action against officials of AAI involved in drug smuggling racket.


Slogans like “Drugs smuggling should be stopped immediately,” “Appropriate action should be taken against staff involved in the smuggling,” etc were raised by the womenfolks.


The demonstrators were pacified by lady personnel of the CISF and the Police.


Later, the women’s bodies representatives submitted a memorandum to the General Manager of the AAI.


It may be mentioned that on January 11 personnel of now disbanded SIU had seized drugs worth Rs 1.4 crore from the Airport.


Following the seizure, the SIU was disbanded.


However, the State Cabinet had decided to hand over the case to CBI.


On Sunday, drugs worth lakhs of rupees were seized again from a person at the Airport besides making a haul of drugs worth crores of rupees in Chandel district that involved an airline official.
