brings you an excerpt from an interview with ‘this young and dynamic’ Music Band:
NET: How did you guys come together to form the band?
Our band came in existence in the year 2007 with a hope to bring an ‘evolution’ in the rock scene of Manipur. Stepping in the world of rock music, we gave our debut performance Imphal in the year 2007 at GM HALL in an event named as “15 YEARS ON THE STAIR OF ROCK” which featured international bands like ANGELLICA and CYGNUS.
NET: What are the hurdles that you come across while forming the band?
As young, energetic and enthusiastic yet ‘struggling’ beginners, we were all “DARK RAIN” till March 2008. We finally came up with a promising band name as “DARK REIGN” after when we had packed up an event called “A Sunday night with DARK REIGN”, which was held on 1st June 2008, at Imphal. This particular event featured “PHEONIX” The legendary rock band of Manipur. From this point of time, our band was meant to move a step ahead. There was once a time (2008-09) when the members had to disperse like helter-skelter after their completion of +2. Saman and Nizzy went for further studies and the band hardly got chances to get assembled, except in months like June and December. With these factors on the list, the band experienced a dark and declining phase which brought certain changes in norms of the group leading to kaboom of the band.
NET: What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? Do you think these topics will change over time?
Most of the theme is based on the social and political issues of the society like the armed conflict, the fall out of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, fake-encounter and the conflict between the individual and society which we are facing for each day that passed by. Also, our band lends some taste of ethnic music, to brush up the ‘vision and euthenics’ of the audience and the topic will change over time.
NET: Which bands are your biggest influences when you’re writing and performing?
We are inspired by the Dream Theatre, Postmark, COB and Stratovarius since the inception of our Band.
NET: What are your experiences from the past performances and your band’s biggest achievement to this day?
In 2010, we got a chance to reform the band again with much more features. Transformed into a Delhi based band, now we have most advanced equipments and instruments where they are able to stand on their own. For time being we played some covers of Dream Theater, Van halen, pink floyd, ozzy & Europe. At this point of time we are blessed with an opportunity to make company with “a house n a guitar”, a non profit organisation. The band went through some of the reputed Concerts like “Metronome, Soar high, Man fete MU, Mono tribute (Born Free)” etc.
Thereafter, our band started performing in national level shows such as 7 sister’s rock fest n tours, universities, colleges and got to perform in and around the country. We had come a long way and had performed in many gigs around the country. And now, we have got many fans in various parts of the country and get to perform in prestigious concerts.
NET: What are your present assignments?
We had started out as a cover band and now we have reached the final stages of releasing our first album titled “The Reign” which will consist of 6 songs namely, Seven swordsmen, Dark Reign, Be careful what you die for, Innocence, Post mortem of Mr Truth. It is releasing in the mid of January 2013 at Delhi.
