Imphal, February 22 2013: An encounter took place between suspected cadres of RPF/PLA and troops of Assam Rifles near Saibom village under Tengnoupal police station in Chandel district in the wee hours of this morning.
Sources informed that the gun battle was fought at about 1 am near Saibom village along NH 2 .
However, there is no report of any casualty on either side.
Meanwhile, the Maring Students’ Union (MSU) has condemned the attack on Assam Rifles post at Saibom village by unidentified persons last night.
Saying that the attack left the villagers panic stricken, the MSU, in a press release, urged all concerned not to repeat such acts in civilian areas in future.
