Imphal, February 01 2013: Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front (MNRF) has clarified that Hopeson who was killed during a gunfight yesterday was not a civilian but an agent of NSCN (IM) who instigated innocent Naga people with communal ill feelings against the Meeteis.

In a statement signed by its Senior Information and Publicity Officer, Maxstone, MNRF said that under the command of Canaan of Chatong village who is the Personal Secretary of NSCN (IM) leader Phungthing Shimrang, Hopeson has been instigating innocent Naga villagers of Ukhrul and Thoubal district to stand against the Meeteis.

After completing his mission in Ukhrul district, Hopeson also instigated more Naga people settling in some pockets of Thoubal districts.

It was to stop him that some MNRF cadres went to meet Hopeson yesterday.

However, some NSCN (IM) cadres were already there.

Seeing the approaching MNRF cadres, the NSCN (IM) cadres started opening fire.

In the crossfiring, Hopeson and another NSCN (IM) cadre were hit by bullets, which subsequently claimed the life of Hopeson.

On seeing her husband lying with bullet injuries, Mrs Mayorin, wife of Hopeson, rushed in to attack MNRF cadres.

In order to save themselves, a MNRF cadre had only hit Mayorin with butt of his gun and no gun had ever been fired at her, the MNRF statement said.

It further stated that MNRF will not spare anyone who tries to disintegrate the territorial integrity of Manipur and appealed to the all the Naga people to realise the motive of NSCN (IM) in instilling communal ill feeling against the Meeteis.

It further reiterated that MNRF stands for expanding the rightful historical territorial integrity of Manipur with Unity, Independence and Co-existence.The statement also informed that Pershues Shimray has been appointed as the Revenue Officer of MNRF with immediate effect.
