Imphal, February 01 2013: Two minor girls have been reported missing after leaving their homes in Ukhrul to visit a village of a woman known to them in the mid of January last.
On January 16, the two minor girls residing at Viewland locality in Ukhrul town were taken away by a “known woman” from the same locality to pay visit to the latter’s native village.
Since then, they have not returned home and their whereabouts remains unknown till today.
The girls’ parents have filed an FIR at Ukhrul police station on January 21.Police have also registered a missing case (No.6 clause I 2013) under a relevant IPC Act.
As intense investigation is on to trace the missing minors, police have not divulged the details of a woman who have reportedly taken them away.
A source stated that the woman has a suspicious character and could be involved in sex racketeering.
The missing minor girls are identified as Kh.
Yurringphy (13), d/o Kh.
Shangam and Kh.
Yaitimla (14), d/o Kh.
Solomon.
Both of them are from Poarei village and are cousin sisters.
A reliable source in Imphal said the policemen in civvies are searching various pockets in the state capital where the illegal red-lights are being operated.
In this wake, there are speculations doing the round that the case could be linked to human trafficking considering the “sex racket” that was busted in Ukhrul in November 2012 .
An Ukhrul-based social organization had unearthed the sex racket last year after two teenage girls from a Ukhrul village escaped from the dragnet of their “madams” .
It may be mentioned that four women sex racketeers were subsequently nabbed and tonsured in full public view in Ukhrul.
However, the law enforcement agencies have turned a blind eye to the entire episode.
According to reliable sources, the sex racket exposed last year was just a tip of the proverbial iceberg and many kingpins are still at large.
In the confessional statements given by the ‘madams’ in November last, the illegal prostitution was linked to certain politicians and bureaucrats in the state.
Are the law enforcement agencies turning a blind eye to the illegal prostitution as it is linked to people in the seat of power? This question has now been doing the round among the public.
