40,000 bogus voters deleted in Senapati, Chandel

Imphal, March 24 2013 : With detection of total number of voters exceeding total number of population in some parts of Senapati and Chandel district while monitoring through use of Picasa software, around 40,000 voters have been scrapped away from the list of voters in these two districts, O Nabakishore, Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur, has informed.


Nabakishore was speaking as Chief Guest of a book releasing function cum Prof PN Kaola Memorial Lecture organized by Manipur Library Association (MALA) at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound here today.


While releasing the book, ‘Electoral Reforms Ama Oina Proportional Representation System’ written by Dr Arambam Birajit, Nabakishore further pointed out that as a developing nation, there are various loopholes in the election system of India.


Even though Election Commission of India has been trying its level best to plug these loopholes through various means, there seems to be always some other ways and means for the wrong doers to do their mischief.


Nonetheless, the recent application of Picasa software has helped in detection of bogus voters including in Manipur.


Around 40,000 voters alone have been deleted from the list of voters in Senepati and Chandel district where in some parts the total number of voters is found to be more than the total number of population of the people, he added.


Presided over by ex-Minister Dr M Nara, the function was also attended by S Sanahanbi, former Principal of DM College of Commerce.


Advocate Khaidem Mani introduced the book to the gathering while Prof Th Madhuri of Library and Information Science, Manipur University delivered the Prof PN Kaola Memorial Lecture on the topic “Democracy Mai Pakhanbada Library gee Thoudang” (The role and responsibility of library towards ensuring success of democracy) .
