Imphal, March 19 2013: Demanding that their demands be conceded within April 20, All Manipur VDF (Village Defence Force) Welfare Association president Md alimuddin cautioned that intense agitation would be launched against the Government if plight of the VDF is not addressed within the specified deadline.

speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, Alimuddin highlighted that inspite of the Government partially redressing economic problem besieging the VDF personnel by hiking the monthly ration to Rs 1000 the Association’s main demand for increasing the salary remains unfulfilled till date.

Reminding that the Association had been on agitations since october last to highlight woes of the lowly-paid VDF personnel inspite of their engagement on par with regular security force personnel, he said on the advice of Senior Citizens for society the distraught VDF personnel would resort to democratic means of agitation, including donating blood, for the time being.

However, in case the main demand is not honoured by the Government of Manipur by april 20 there is no guarantee that the VDF personnel would stick to peaceful means of agitation, cautioned Alimuddin.

Senior Citizens for Society president N Benoy, who was also present at the media briefing prevailed upon the Government that VDF personnel deserve better treatment, including hike in basic salary, besides suggesting that either a separate VDF department be set up or an SP appointed.
