BJP spells out poll stand

Source:

Imphal, March 22 2013: While welcoming MPP’s proposal to put up a common candidate for all Opposition parties in the next Lok Sabha election, BJP Manipur unit has ruled out joining any political platform where either Congress or Left parties are present.

Given the positions adopted by some Opposition parties, particularly Left parties and BJP, it would not be an easy task for the Opposition parties to field a common candidate in the Lok Sabha election.

Welcoming MPP’s proposal to field a common candidate, BJP State unit president Th Chaoba remarked that the MPP’s initiative to put up a common candidate who can defeat rival Congress candidate merits appreciation.

In view of the myriad problems being endured by common man because of misgovernance both at the Centre and the State, the coming Lok Sabha election assumes greater significance.

Under such circumstances, it is also the wish of BJP for opposition parties to field a common in order to defeat the ruling Congress party.

However, BJP would not like to go together with Left parties in any political manoeuvre, Chaoba asserted.

A special meeting of the party executive committee would be held tomorrow to discuss the Lok Sabha election as well as other matters pertaining to BJP Manipur unit.

The meeting which would also been attended by BJP National General Secretary Tapir Gao and former North East in-charge Chandrasekhar Rao would deliberate on the proposal of fielding a common candidate and the proposed visit of BJP president Rajnath Singh to the State.

Whereas MPP advisor O Joy claimed that the proposal to field a common candidate evoked positive response from different opposition parties, CPI State Secretary Dr M Nara asserted that neither Congress nor BJP would ever come back to power.

He went on to assert that CPI would work towards finding a common candidate for opposition parties excluding Congress, BJP and NPF.
