Mishap kills six BRTF workers

Moreh, March 25, 2013: Atleast six BRTF labourers including two women were killed and 34 others injured in an accident at Govajang village in Chandel district this morning.


A truck carrying construction material and around 40 labourers engaged by 82 RCC Tengnoupal under 25 BRTF for border fencing works skidded off the road and fell into a gorge due to sudden technical breakdown at around 8.30 am near Govajang village, 2 kms to the east of Moreh Police Station.


Four labourers died at the spot while two others succumbed to injuries at Moreh Hospital.


Fifteen persons who were seriously injured in the accident were shifted to Imphal while 19 others are undergoing treatment at Moreh Hospital.


The deceased persons have been identified as Tulsi Thapa (40) of Ukhrul, Nakul Urang (23) of Assam, Jaorapom (48) of Jharkhand, Samdarpon (22) of Jharkhand, Kahawan Devi (50) w/o Vijoy of Jharkhand and Vahneilam Kipgen (25) w/o Nehminei Kipgen of Govajang village.


Personnel and doctors of 9 Assam Rifles posted at Moreh Gate No 4 helped the victims in evacuating them to hospital.
