Imphal, March 19 2013: Keeping up the momentum of anti-drug campaign, women activists of CADA and other civil society organisations today marched to Home Minister Gaikhangam’s office at Old Secretariat.
Holding placards and shouting slogans like, “Check smuggling of drugs into Manipur”, “Identify and punish drug smugglers”, “Don’t conceal powerful kingpins of drug smuggling rackets”, “Dispose seized drugs in public”, “Dispose all drug related cases handed over to CBI within six months”, “Revive disbanded SIU”, “Save our society” etc, a large number of women marched to the Home Minister’s office at about 2 pm.
However, they were blocked by women police personnel; in front of BSNL office resulting in a stand-off.
Even as the women protesters were somehow detained there with the arrival of police reinforcement, the agitating women breached past the police barricade and went up to the gate of Old Secretariat.
There they demanded a meeting with the Home Minister.
Later, three representatives were allowed to proceed up to the Home Minister’s office but they came back soon after as the Home Minister was not present in his office.
