New CCCs for PLHIVs

Source:

Imphal, March 20 2013: The existing Community Care Centres (CCCs) which are being run in different districts of the State by ten selected NGOs with financial assistance from National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) will stop functioning from March 31 .

These CCCs, which have ten beds each, are meant to provide treatment to Persons Living With HIV/AIDS (PLHIVs).

Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS) selected the ten NGOs to run the existing CCCs, said an official source.

However, in a fresh order, NACO has given the responsibility of providing treatment to PLHIVs to HIV Alliance, the source said and added that the same had been communicated to MACS by NACO, the source added.

The Central Government agency had also directed HIV Alliance to select fresh NGOs for running new CCCs from April 1 .

Apart from giving treatment, the new CCCs would also provide some additional services to PLHIVs, the source said and added that the current NGOs which have secured the grade rated by NACO are likely to continue their service further.

As the new service is to be commenced with only five CCCs in the first phase, PLHIVs of those districts which do not have these treatment centres are likely to face some inconvenience.

Meanwhile, MACS has written to NACO to continue the service of the existing CCCs where new CCCs are not to be set up in the first phase, the source added.
