Antidrug campaign Womenfolk take to street, memo submitted

Imphal, March 11 2013: Volunteers of 26 different women organisations under the banner of Working Group of Meira Paibees Movement in Manipur today submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister O Ibobi after taking out a rally in protest against drug trafficking.


As the agitating womenfolk tried to storm the Chief Minister’s official residence, police blocked them at the gate of the CM’s residence.


Later, six representatives L Memchoubi, S Memcha, L Mema, RK Landhoni, Janno Begum and A Ibetombi were allowed to meet Chief Minister O Ibobi.


They submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister regarding the issue.

The memorandum demanded that the drug traffickers be punished after conducting an impartial investigation.


It also demanded making public the names of the VIPs, Army officers and Government officials involved in different cases of drug trafficking.


Demanding repeal of AFSPA from the State, the memorandum also urged the Chief Minister to send off the Army officer, who was involved in drug trafficking, from Manipur.
