Imphal, March 16 2013 : The Central Medical Store of State Medical Directorate is currently plagued with financial inadequacy, an official source has revealed.
The source added, items essential in the treatment of patients in District hospitals of Churachandpur, Tamenglong, Chandel, Senapati, Ukhrul, Bishnupur and Thoubal, 20 Community Health Centres, 72 Primary Health Centres and 420 Primary Health Sub-Centres of the State are to be distributed by the Central Medical Store.
However, the same could not be done since past few years due to minuscule plan amount allotted to the store.
The source further said that there is need to earmark around Rs 20 crore to meet the said requirements of the medical centres every year.

Patients have to buy medicines of their own now although a few essentials are still provided to emergency patients, the source added.
Dextrose 5 percent and 10 percent, Dextrose Normal Saline, Ringer Lactate, cotton and bandage etc are to be provided free of cost to patients, the source added.
Cotton and some other medicines are also being provided through National Rural Health Mission, it added.
