Imphal, March 01 2013: Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) is set to launch a new strategy to keep the Municipal area neat and clean.
Mandatory registration of households and shops with NGOs, handing over of dumper vehicles to NGOs by IMC, launching of awareness campaign, effective monitoring of NGOs and awarding penalty to persons who dump garbage at unwanted locations are the key points which are to be enforced soon.
Talking to , IMC Engineering Officer Kh Iboyaima said that all the households and shopkeepers must register themselves with the NGOs which are being engaged in door-to-door collection of waste material.
Those unregistered households and shopkeepers who dump garbage at any place inside the Municipal area would be penalised with fine and booked under the law of the land, he added.
Saying that four NGOs CRED, TAKCDEF, WUM and 7 Security are being engaged in collection of waste material by dividing different jurisdictional areas, Kh Ibomcha said that vehicles known as ‘kangshi gari’ (bell vehicle) would be handed over to these NGOs for effective collection of garbage from all nooks and corner of the Municipal area.
These vehicles would reach every household twice a day 7 in the morning and 5 in the evening.
He added that every household and shop must also pay monthly fee to the NGO concerned every month.
Kh Ibomcha further said that IMC would launch an awareness campaign regarding mandatory registration of households and shops with the NGOs in collaboration with police soon.
Saying that one could still see some scattered garbage at some parts of Khwairamband Bazar, Kh Ibomcha said that it was due to the cease work strike of IMC employees which lasted four months.
However, cleaning of these garbages is in full swing as the employees have returned to normal duty, he added.
Kh Ibomcha further said that piling up of waste material at different parts of Khwairamband Bazar is due to lack of civic sense of the shopkeepers.
Police officers and personnel on duty at Khwairamband area would monitor the working of the NGOs and check dumping of garbage at unwanted locations by residents and shopkeepers, he added.
