Governor, CM, Dy CM congratulate So far, six from State have scaled Everest

Imphal, May 19 2013: Governor Gurbachan Jagat, Chief Minister O Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam have congratulated the team of the 1st North East Mt Everest Expedition 2013 on summiting the highest peak of the world.


Gurbachan Jagat said that the climbers of Manipur have made the State proud.


He added that MMTA, which is organising the expedition with support from various agencies, deserves praise for their effort to offer the climbers of North East States to scale the highest peak in the world.


In his message to the team, the Chief Minister said that he is proud to know that three Manipuris namely, N Bidyapati, N Chingkheinganba and Puyamba Mohon are among 10 climbers of the team who have scaled the peak.


Another two from Manipur also scaled the highest peak today at 7.30 am.


The two, SUO P Bidyachand Singh and and UO Chirom Shankar Singh are NCC cadets of 14 Manipur Bn, NCC, Imphal.


They were part of a different team which was sponsored by the NCC.

Ph Bidyachand Singh (19) son of Ph Manihar Singh hails from Moiran Khunou Tera Makhong and is attached with the 14 (Manipur) Bn NCC, Moirang College unit, while UO Chirom Shankar Singh (19) son of Ch Sanajaoba Singh is from Waheng Khuman and is attached to Imphal College Unit of 14 (Manipur) NCC, Imphal.


In all six persons from Manipur have scaled the highest peak in the world with N Suresh being the first to do so in 2010 .


He also lauded Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association for organising the expedition.


The team consists of 13 climbers, out of which 10 climbers that include two from Arunachal Pradesh, one from Assam, three from Manipur, one from Meghalaya, one from Mizoram and two from Sikkim reached the summit.


The Chief Minister also congratulated two NCC Cadets namely, Sh Shankar and Ph Bidyachand, who were part of NCC Mt Everest Expedition team, on reaching the peak.


O Ibobi said that the tremendous success of the 1st North East India Mt Everest Expedition 2013 has once again proved the potential and talents of the region in the fields of sports and mountaineering and it would renew the hopes of those who aspire to be an Everester.


The Chief Minister also appreciated the support rendered by all concerned including the North East Council, NE States and families of the climbers.


Meanwhile MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has congratulated all the climbers who have conquered Mt Everest.


Gaikhangam too conveyed that the State Cabinet would discuss about incentives that may be given to the mountaineers tomorrow.
