Imphal, May 19 2013: Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) has expressed concern over the death of an NSCN (IM) cadre in a reported gunfight with ZUF cadres yesterday.

In a press release, ZU (AMN) said that it has always been working for maintaining peace among different groups and factions of armed militants in Zeliangrong regions of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.

The ZU through ‘Chaguat Phom’ (peace meditation committees) set up from time to time during the past half a century, has persistently been urging the various factions to shun violence and armed conflicts among themselves in Zeliangrong areas.

The Zeliangrong Elders Forum of Peace Broker, ZU’s latest ‘Chaguat Phom’, formed in 2006 has just wound up its works last week, the press release added.

The ZU appealed the armed groups and factions in Zeliangrong areas not to resort to armed action as a means to sort out their differences.

It added that such hostilities would give problems and hardships to civilians and would not help to achieve their political goal at all.
