Thieves held

Imphal, May 22 2013 : With assistance from 10 Assam Rifles troops, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) staff caught five persons while they were trying to steal GI pipes worth around Rs 1.2 lakh from Kangchup area of Senapati district.


According to a police source, the thieves were caught red handed while they were trying to load the pipes (300 mm) in a jeep (MN-01X – 2378) after cutting it into pieces.


It may be mentioned that Sapermeina Police Station is currently investigating a case of pipes theft worth Rs 2 lakh on May 16 .


The arrested persons have been identified as Mangneo Touthang (16) s/o Hesei, Mincha Kipgen (16) s/o Haopu, Ginpu Kipgen (18) s/o Henthang, Thathang Kipgen (22) s/o Helen and Haopu Kipgen (47) s/o late Lun.


All of them hail from Kangchup and Phaizol villages.


Although, they have been handed over to Lamshang Police Station, Sapermeina Police Station will take them into their custody for further investigation soon, said the source.
