Imphal, May 19 2013: The Asom Samaj Manipur hosted Rongali Bihu celebration at Devalaya Mandir, Kalibari (Thangal bazar) today with Education Minister M Okendro Singh gracing the celebration as the chief guest.


While Okendro conveyed warm wishes to the Assamese community on the auspicious occasion, event host president Upen Basumatary expressed hope that Rongali Bihu celebration will strengthen cordial relationships amongst different communities settled in the North East region.


Informing that apart from religious fervour, Rongali Bihu is celebrated by the Assamese people to preserve and promote cultural heritage, he wished that the annual festival herald peace and tranquillity in Manipur too.


apart from people belonging to the Assamese community and others, Manager of LPG Bottling Plant, sekmai Bharat Das and Devalaya secretary Bubul Kangsha Banik also attended the celebration during which a Bihu dance troupe from North Guwahati as well as folk and contemporary song artistes performed.
