New Delhi, May 19 2013: A rudderless ship, that is what Manipur Bir Tikendraji House at Chanakyapuri, South Delhi has been reduced to with the staff running around trying to keep the House in order.
When visited the State house, there were no officer (s) nor any Deputy Resident Commissioner.
There were only a few staff in-charge of house keeping and reception.
The other State Bhawan, at Sardar Patel Marg (exclusively for VVIPs) has a Resident Commissioner, Officer on Special Duty, Private Secretary (to CM), other officials and staff.
Currently both the State Bhawans are managed, maintained and monitored by these Officers and officials from Sadar Patel Marg.
The foundation stone of Bir Tikendrajit House was laid in May 1990 by the then Union Minister of Urban Development, Murasoli Maran and presided over by the then Chief Minister of Manipur RK Ranbir Singh.
It was inaugurated by LK Advani, the then Union Home Minister and presided over by the then Governor of Manipur Ved Prakash Marwah on December 24, 2001, Bir Tikendrajit House has 9 cabins, 8 double rooms, 13 single rooms and 2 dormitories.

A closer look at the rooms revealed that most of the air conditioners installed in the rooms were not functioning, and damages caused by water leakage were visible on the walls.
learnt that since there were no electricians or plumbers, they relied on Sadar Patel Marg or outside for day to day maintenance.
“We don’t have a generator, so when there is power cut, we give candles to our guest ” said one staff.
Moreover there was only one official sweeper for the house.
Complaints from guests are an everyday dose for the staff.
Surprisingly, the garage of the State house remain unused.
An empty underground floor is filled with cobwebs and dust, and worn out materials were piled up at the entrance of the garage.
This correspondent was told that vehicles could not make/ take a turn to the entrance pavement and therefore no vehicles were parked.
It may also be mentioned that all vehicles irrespective of officials or commercial (such as Taxis and Autos) were parked all along nearby the House, inside the gate.
Moreover, most of the guests taking accommodation in the State house do not take their meals at Manipur Bhavan even though they love Manipuri food items.
One guest told this correspondent that he took his meals outside due to the poor quality of food being served here.
While the Bhawan has no public space such as meeting halls, Delhi based organizations like student bodies or other civil organizations are not given permission to enter or utilise the space within them.
