Educational facilities in Saitu inaugurated

Imphal, May 23 2013 : Along with inaugurating an Eklavya model residential school at Gamnom Saparmeina, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today dedicated two hostel buildings for scheduled tribe boys and girls students at the same area.


Eklavya model residential schools are said to be a part of the national project on education aimed at facilitating hill area students belonging to economically unsound families pursue their academic goal without any financial burden on their parents.


The Eklavya Model Residential School and both the hostels were developed with funding from Ministry of Tri-bal Affairs and implemented by Manipur Tribal Development Corporation, the work agency of Department of Tri-bal Development and Hills.


Along with free accommodation and food at the hostels, students enrolled in the said educational institution, which will have class VI to XII stan-dards, will be provided text-books and uniforms by the Government.


Each of the hostel will house 120 students while the Eklavya Model Residential School, located under Saitu assembly constituency, will start with Class VI only in the inaugural session and subsequently upgraded to class XII with 60-student limit for each of the classes.


it is also said that a Committee with the district Deputy Commissioner as its Chairperson will be entrusted with administrative responsibilities.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the facilities, Gaikhangam informed that the main objective of establishing the Eklavya school was to facilitate the financially deprived tribal students pursue their academic goal and live with dignity.


Appealing to the parents/guardians to enrol their wards and avail opportunities provided in the institution so that the upcoming generations become responsible citizens, the Deputy CM, who also holds the Tribal Development and Hills portfolio, also conveyed that plans are afoot to set up similar educational institutions in all the districts.


Confiding that Ministry concerned would be officially intimated soon to initiate suitable measures including appointment of teaching staff members and material provisions so that the session commences at the earliest, Gaikhangam seeking cooperation of the people in transforming the institutions into a successful one also informed that school boundary fencing works would begin soon.


Applauding Saitu AC representative (IFC Minister) Ngamthang Haokip as a committed and affectionate individual, the Deputy CM also exuded confidence that the former would continue to live upto the expectation of the masses.


Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, who also attended the event, conveyed appreciation to the IFC Minister for donating the school and hostel building plots and wished the institution will produce a number of meritorious students.


In his brief address, Ngamthang Haokip reminded that the residential school and hostels were developed to ensure the economically deprived students too have access to quality education.


He also sought public support and cooperation for ensuring smooth and successful functioning of the institution.


Rural Development Minister Francis Ngajokpa, Parliamentary Secretary for Tribal Development and Hills Victor Keishing, Manipur Tribal Development corporation Chairman Manga Vaiphei and Kangpokpi AC MLA Nemcha Kipgen also attended the programme.
