Imphal, May 22 2013 : For the first time in the annals of the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM), the Class 12 results of 2013 were declared today under the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system in which grading system has taken over the ranking system.

The overall pass percentage of HSSLC Exams this year is pegged at 81.44 just 1.42 percent below the previous year’s pass percentage.

In Science stream the pass percentage is recorded at 83.20 while the pass percentages in Arts and Commerce streams are recorded at 78.19 and 63.79 respectively.

Significantly the Central Board of Secondary Education had introduced the CCE pattern under the Summative Assessment and Formative Assessment, since the last few years, wherein the performance of the students are assessed on their year round performance.

COHSEM had been following the ranking system till last year.

This is the first time the traditional Ranking System has been replaced with the Grading system.

The names of toppers were not announced much to the surprise of the students, parents and guardians, with the COHSEM also failing to put in a foreword that the ranking system has been done away with.

Nevertheless, the COHSEM would honour all subject-wise toppers of the three streamsArts, Science and Commerce, as was done in the previous years.

Students securing the highest marks in each subject are acknowledged and given incentives, some of which carry cash components.

The incentives are usually provided by individual families in the name of a family elder or a well known personality.

In twelve subjects, out of a total of 40 subjects offered in the three streams of Arts, Science and Commerce, cent percent pass is registered in Geology, Elective Hindi, Hmar (MIL), Kom (MIL), Mizo (MIL), Music, Paite (MIL), Philosophy, Psychology, Thadou-Kuki (MIL), Vaiphei (MIL) and Zou (MIL).

The lowest pass percentage is recorded in Engineering Drawing with 57.41 pass percentage.

In the last five years, the pass percentage of the previous year (2012) recorded the highest with 82.86 while the pass percentage in 2009 recorded the lowest with 67.45 .

Results of ten candidates are withheld.

Notably, 56 candidates were expelled during the exam for impersonation while 22 candidates were expelled for using unfair means.

COHSEM has also replaced the word ‘passed’ with ‘qualified’ and ‘divisions’ too have been done away with.

Even as the results were uploaded on the website, there were confusions galore with anxious parents, students and guardians bombarding the offices of the newspapers with queries.
