Lamka, June 16 2013: The Kuki State Demand Committee has today hinted that their agitation that was suspended earlier would be resumed on the ground that the Government has translated nothing into action.

The KSDC has decided to intensify the temporarily suspended general strike in Kuki areas if delaying tactics for dialogue is an excuse.

It would be followed soon by economic blockade in Kuki inhabited areas of present Manipur, said the committee in a statement issued today.

“Time and again, assurance has been given by the Government but nothing has been translated into practice.

This indifferent attitude of the Government is detrimental to the hard-earned peace in Kuki areas after signing Suspension of Operation (SoO) with Kuki militants under the banner of KNO and UPF in 2008,” stated the KSDC and added that rather than speeding up the process for political dialogue, the Government and its agencies have time and again tried to politically engage the Kuki armed groups under SoO.

It also questioned the very purpose of the five years old SoO.

“Isn’t SoO signed for political dialogue for Kuki political solution? Are not the Kukis, citizens of India?’ asked the KSDC statement signed by S George Guite.

The attitude of the Government, which the KSDC said is lackadaisical, would invite socio-economic and political turmoil in Kuki inhabited areas, it warned further.

The KSDC has also inducted Soithianmang Vaiphei and M Chinsuanlam Zou to its Central Executive Committee, said George.
