A conglomerate of 37 organisations and Sana Konung (Royal Palace) Semgat Lup, Committee member AK Janaki Devi told newspersons at the Royal Palace today that the Government’s plan to relocate residential place of the titular king for developing the Royal Palace into a museum complex cannot be accepted.

Highlighting that the Langthabal palace built during the rein of Maharaj Gambhir Singh symbolises valour of Manipuri kings apart from being a historic site having potential to draw tourists, she observed that the Royal Palace renovation plan testifies naivety of the present Government on the history of Manipur.

even after conquering the erstwhile independent Manipur the British Government according importance to the history of Manipur built the present-day Royal Palace in 1891 to preserve the royal lineage and cultural heritage of Manipur, noted the Committee member.

Demanding that the Government withdraw its decision of converting the Royal Palace to a museum, Janaki asserted that the Committee will stiffly oppose any move to shift residential place of the titular king.

Stating that the Royal Palace should remain as the domain of the titular king, she suggested that in case Government is keen to develop the Royal Palace development activities be initiated after consulting Sana Konung Semgat Lup.
